My Journey with Napoleon Hill’s Success Principles. By Philip Chan
1. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen… My sincere appreciation to Mr. Chong and his team for giving me the opportunity this morning to share the perception of my journey with Napoleon Hill’s success principles.
2. Before I proceed any further, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Christina Chia for her encouragement, dedication and unwavering support in teaching my batch of students to enhance our knowledge and greater understanding of the need for self-management towards greater growth in our life journey. Thank you, Christina for your great, selfless endeavours. My thanks also go to Lorela Chia for the initial contact to Christina.
3. When I was first asked to attend the 7-month SOS crash course, my initial thought was I’m already near my retirement age and what else do I need to know in life with my umpteen years of both good and bad experiences. Although I was at first skeptical about the science of self-management or motivational philosophy, curiosity got the better of me. It kind of tickled my mind that I must attend the course to find out what’s so special about the Science of Success. Furthermore, I have always subscribed to the belief that everyday is a learning process and that I should explore the values/benefits from this self-management course. This actually started a new chapter of my life to better understand myself and fully appreciate my life journey on a broader perspective.
4. Like most people, I strongly believed that there is always a solution to every problem faced by us in life. However, we have the tendency to seek the solution to the problem, whether in our personal life or business, by using the short-cut methods. This is where the problem lies… basically we are indifferent from the others who are merely trying to seek opportunities for nothing. What I’m driving at is that the majority would love to find the optimal solution without taking the trouble to find real root to a problem. Likewise, for us to fully understand what are the reasons for the mediocrity of one’s life, it remains imperative for us to firstly understand ourself and utilize our greatest power -- your own personal choice – either you choose success or failure.
5. As I mentioned earlier, after completing the SOS course, it has given me an in-depth understanding and knowledge of what I want from life, the direction I should be taking and what actions are needed to achieve a blissful life filled with great happiness, good health and most importantly, wisdom.
6. Many a time, most of us are unaware that we have unconsciously practiced some of Dr. Hill’s 17 success principles in our life journey. This is because we have yet to fully explore or failed to understand these principles in greater details. For example, the burning desire to complete my accountancy in the UK fuelled my determination to the extreme where I had to hold two jobs to save money to complete my studies. Start up of own business 5 years ago.
7. The 17 profound success principles: DMP; MMA; Applied Faith; GEM; Pleasing Personality; Personal Initiative; PMA; Enthusiasm; Self-Discipline; Accurate Thinking; Controlled Attention; Teamwork; Learning from Adversity and Defeat; Creative Vision; Sound Health; Budgeting Time and Money; and Universal Law… are practical tools for the success of our personal life and business or vocation. What’s most important is for us to understand each of the principles and learn how to apply them without violating the rights of others.
8. The essential ingredient to attain success, of course, lies in oneself to take action. It remains pointless if we continued dreaming to fulfill our dreams without action. Only positive actions, actions and actions are required to ignite the sparks to create a burning desire to attain our objectives and goals.
9. By doing so, it helps us to think and act positively towards maintaining and sustaining a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA). PMA tops the list of the riches of life and enables us to courageously take actions in our pursuits of the things we want. It is a mental state of mind that shapes our character, attitude and strong beliefs of our capabilities and capacity to achieve success in whatever situations, even during times of difficulties, challenging environment and in the face of adversities. Without a PMA, your battle to overcome challenges and adversities is as good as gone. However, if you are able to maintain and sustain a PMA in all your deeds and work, the chances of winning the war, instead of the battle, is far more greater with many opportunities ahead/
10. The SOS is certainly a recommended course for everyone who wishes to improve and uplift their life to a higher plane to attain all the riches in life. It encourages you to cultivate good habits, eradicate your fears and better self-management towards your happiness, health and wealth. Priority for taking the course should obviously for self-development and improvement in your life journey. The secondary objective is the ability to make it a career by becoming a trainer and imparting the knowledge to others to make this world a better place for everyone.
11. For those who have passed 50 years and on the verge of retirement, this is an opportunity to create a new opportunity by taking the career path. The word ‘retirement’ should not be in your vocabulary as you should appreciate that our life journey is a learning process.
12. ‘Old is Gold’ – Silver on our head, gold in our teeth and gas in our stomach!
13. Gratitude to audience for listening and also to NHA.
